If you imagine your business in 12 months time AFTER the issue above has been resolved, how would your business look? What would be different?

12 months is obviously a long time from a business point of view, especially within the design field with ever changing branding and advertising campaigns, not to mention changes in technology and SEO rules and regulations. Customer’s requirements do move at 100 miles an hour with everyone wanting to stay one step ahead and quite rightly so.

Allowing for this the time should still be taken by designers to ensure that every website design is viewed as a portfolio piece; after all you are only as good as your last piece of work. Involving the clients along all aspects of the design from the aesthetic right through to explaining the likes of W3C validation and SEO is important as it allows the client to not only feel at ease with the work but gain a true understanding of what they are receiving and what the website can achieve.

Fixing the aforementioned issues would not only make the internet a better designed medium but would ensure a far more user friendly service from a number of service and product orientated sites. If your car requires a new exhaust you can pop down to any exhaust supplier and have one fitted. If you are not happy with the end result there are governing bodies to check the work over and work with you to resolve the situation. There is not a realistic way to regulate website design and build so it is therefore not an easy subject to resolve.

By staying up to date with the latest technologies, educating clients through good honest work and keeping up good communication with all clients, client retention is possible for not just design but SEO and e-marketing.

12 months is a long time and client/provider trust carries a lot of weight, especially as businesses talk to each other and word of mouth is one of the most powerful marketing tools available. You cannot remove the providers but by educating the general working populace to be a bit more careful when sourcing a website provider will allow companies like ours providing the services we do to continue growing and being successful.

To answer the question, the only change to our business would be the number of staff and the length of our client list but in turn, far more companies would reap the rewards of ongoing relationships with our company and its experience rather than just paying an invoice and being left to get on with it.
